Here, the pattern in blue is the same as pattern 01a and you can see that parts of this pattern (where the decagons are seperated by pentagons) are replicated exactly within itself, but on a much smaller scale. The intersections of the blue lines still give the centers of the red decagons, so perhaps this was the starting point for the original designers and then they worked inwards.
Again the next pattern shows us more shapes in the blue design that we've already seen on a smaller scale in grey, but in pattern 08, though the blue is still based on the same system it's less similar to it's smaller contents.
